Twenty One Pilots released their fourth studio album Information

Twenty One Pilots released their fourth studio album, Blurryface, on May 17, 2015. The album topped the Billboard 200 and produced two top five singles, "Stressed Out" and "Ride", peaking at number two and number five, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100. The songs, along with the single "Heathens" from the Suicide Squad soundtrack, launched the band into the mainstream in 2016. The duo embarked on two world tours in support of the album from 2015 to 2017. Following the five final dates of the band's tour, dubbed "Tour de Columbus", the band went into a year long hiatus beginning on July 6, 2017.

On April 21, 2018, fans discovered a website created by the band called dmaorg.info. On this site, many cryptic teasers about the new album, concept, and era were uncovered. The website mentioned Dema, a fictional city created by the band. Josh Dun mentioned Dema for the first time at the APMA Awards. The website also posted many journal entries from a fictional character, Clancy, about his escape from Dema. Many other codes and clues were found as well. On July 8, 2018, the final entry from Clancy's journal was posted. The journal entry said "By morning, nothing will be the same". The next day, the band returned to social media with a video of a slightly opened yellow eye. They also debuted the new logo, and billboards and murals containing the logo popped up in numerous cities around the world overnight.[1] The next day, the band posted another video of the eye, more open, with a muffled version of the intro to "Jumpsuit" playing
